Snowflakes 2007
My friend Robbie D. sent me this link & I’m not sure if I am down with this or not. I am still thinking it over. http://snowflakes07.com
So the bottom line is they want everyone to go out and paint street advertisements white on May 2nd, 2007. Sounds cool as a rebellion against the daily bombardment of crappy ads all over the streets but on the other hand, I love Tokyo and the Gibson-esque vision of the future where street ads are everywhere and everything possible is plastered with information overload. So I will have to think about this one for a bit more. I am super into sticking it to the big corporations and forcing them to spend hard cash to redo their ads, but I just think we could hit them a lot harder than that. For instance… What if we all called AT&T, Cingular, Verizon, Orange, BT and the worst of all Sprint and told them on January 1st 2008 we were all going to cancel our cellular phone service unless they did away with their barely legal “contracts”. What choice would they have? I mean for years they’ve gotten away with forcing customers to remain loyal due to hefty “early termination fees.” This is a ridiculous unprecedented policy and I find it way more offensive than street advertising. Imagine if you went to a restaurant and they said you could eat there for one dollar every night but you had to eat there every night for the next two years and furthermore that if you ate anywhere else they would then charge you one hundred dollars. I for one; would eat somewhere else and pay the full price gladly. So while I think about Snowflakes07, I will also plot and plan “The Great Cellular Boycott of 2008″.
god i so agree!! although i got a free phone worth £230 (about $400) the other day from my mobile phone company the other day - i have to pay £15 a month for 18 months to get 100 free minutes & 100 free texts, so in total that lil phone is only costing me £40 … BARGAIN!!
